Bait Fishing

During the spring, summer, and fall we are fishing. From late August to October we are the “bait haulers” for the Port of Eureka. Our main business is suppling albacore bait boats with live anchovies. All the gear you see on this site, we use–a lot!–gives us a firsthand opportunity to improve what we build in the winter. To date, the lampara bait net on our boat has 1000 sets to its credit. Sets on anchovies ranging from a few hundred pounds to four tons, get dried up between our boat and the visiting bait boat and bait is moved via our scoops. There are times when we are able to bait out two boats simultaneously (see photos). We have been fishing live bait for over twenty years.
